Environment Canada funds EYA’s Pollinators Paradise project
The Environmental Youth Alliance has just received funding from the Eco-Action fund at Environment Canada to do a city-wide mason bee project in an effort to engage people on bee habitat and the importance of bees to our food system. We currently have 100 bee stewards all over the city, looking after the 'condos', reporting in on a monthly basis for a 2 year term. The volunteers received the condo, a reference book and DVD on how to maintain the condos, an apple tree, some native plants, and bee wildflower mix for participating.

As she already had previous experience in urban agriculture (UA) in Toronto, Vancouver and Ecuador, when in came time for the UA interns to choose their independent projects it was clear that Erika was ready to take on new skills that would further her path in the environmental field.

EYA involved in World Urban Youth Forum
The EYA is working in partnership with UN HABITAT to facilitate the upcoming WUYF to be held in Nanjing, China from November 1-2. EYA tackles climate change and urban forests
Spurred by the destruction of Stanley Park during the December 2005 windstorm, EYA has launched Winds of Change, an urban climate change project focused on protecting our urban forests. The project is done in partnership with the Audemars Piguet foundation, the Stanley Park Ecology Society and UN HABITAT Global Partnership Initiative. Winds was launched at the Future in our Hands: Addressing the Leadership Challenge of Climate Change, a high level Climate Change meeting held at the UN in late September.
